I'm a scientist with extremely limited ultrasound knowledge/experience. Our group has a very old and tired UM9 which we have used to successfully image sheep heart with the onboard cardiac package and existing transducer (5MHz I think). We are now moving our research to mice, and have been told that to image the mouse heart we will need a higher frquency transducer (higher than 9MHz). We are contemplating sourcing a used L10-5 for our UM9 which appears to be the highest frequency transducer available for the UM9. Because of our lack of knowledge, we do not know if we will be able to use the cardiac calculation package with the L10-5, since it is a musculoskeltal transducer. Will the UM9 "know" that it's not a cardiac transducer and not let us access the cardiac package? We want to capture 2D and M mode and calculate chamber volumes, ejection fraction etc. We have very little money to spend, which is why we wish to only buy a transducer, but if that won't work, can anyone suggest a portable machine that would do the job, which we might be able to source from one of the equipment re-sellers on the net. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
