probe defect

My GE 3.5C transducer is having a problem.A dark band appears on the screen which I suppose is due to some defect in its membrane seal.How to correct this? Can this membrane be taken off?

Typically, a vertical dark band is a crystal/detector problem with the probe. While I prefer to replace a probe with a problem like this, I'm sure if you call the number above, they'll give you a quote for repair or replacement.
