Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the Philips Omni III adapter is and what it is intended to be used for? And how does one go about testing it?

It is basically a box with a male transducer connector on one side and a female on the other. It locks into the system and it is apparently designed to accept another transducer. The transducer that the OMNI III is designed to accept must not have a flanged connector housing as it accepts only transducers which have a lower profile connector housing.

There are small inductors and optoisolators inside.

What is this designed to "adapt" and what models was this intended for?
Thanks in advance,
-DM

The Philips Omni III adapter is an adapter for the Philips IE33. The purpose of it is so you can use some probes from the Philips 5500 and 7500 on the IE33.

Thanks. After doing come further checking, I learned that the Omni III is actually the HP 21292A Probe Adapter. This unit was originally intended to connect older probes to the HP Sonos 4500, 5500 and 7500 systems.

Although this adapter plugs into the iE33, it can only accept probes with a lower profile (smaller) connector housing (though the connector is the same).

Does anyone have information on the failure modes for this product or a list of which probes that it will work with? Also, how do you troubleshoot and test them?
Thanks,
